 Systems Integration

The need to bring technologies together is nothing new; neither is having the ability to do so. However, with the introduction of global standards the ability to integrate both hardware and software has now become an easy and affordable option.

 1)      The need for systems integration technology is paramount for today’s governments

a)      The ability to integrate occurs at several levels within governments on an inter-departmental, inter-Regional and international scale.  Without close cooperation across these different levels, several issues can occur - specifically duplication of data, duplication of procurement and the duplication of suppliers without the benefit of procurement power. Without close cooperation between all agencies it is difficult to implement a unique identifier.

 2)      Managing the need to purchase disparate applications and hardware

 a)      There is always a need to purchase disparate systems to cope with the specialist needs of the individual agencies.  However, the ability to send requests for information, request access to relevant data tables and view relevant cross-departmental information must be part of the procurement element.  The unique keys of the data must be allowed to be cross-referenced easily and quickly when undergoing the implementation process.  Having an excellent systems integration specialist will expedite this process.

3)      The need to breakdown local business and departments/country barriers for data sharing

a)      Without data sharing between local business and departments/countries several opportunities are being missed.  This does not just cover the anti-terrorism mantel but would allow easy passage of the innocent should information sharing be available.  Talking with local hotels to validate a booking through simply requesting for a Yes or No booking confirmation and then validating that they have arrived would be of great benefit.

 4)      The data is essential, the information is KING

 a)      The old adage that information is king is still true today.  The right information in the right place at the right time will always hasten decision points in any process.  This has never been easier than in today’s world.
